As more individuals contribute to the curation of our collective cultural memory we’re writing the first fundamentally democratic history of a generation ever recorded. Emotion, opinion, and the innumerable other components of the human factor at any historical moment are no longer the exclusive interpretive domain of either an academic or a state. Human history is at last evolving into an actual history of humanity.
And there’s a good chance that anyone who says personal publishing is nothing but self-indulgent noise isn’t objecting on principle to some perceived vanity so much as they’re objecting on professional or political grounds to ordinary people recording our own histories.
